Biography
Philippe Emplit holds a PhD in Science and is an emeritus professor of applied physics at both the École Polytechnique de Bruxelles and the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management of the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). His research focuses on two main areas: nonlinear guided-wave photonics, particularly lightwave communication, and higher education strategy and development..
Philippe previously served as Head of the ULB OPERA Department, Vice-Rector for Teaching and Learning Affairs at ULB, and Director of the ULB Teaching and Learning Centre. He currently serves as Academic Head of the Quality Unit at the ULB École Polytechnique de Bruxelles and acts as an international expert for review and audit missions conducted by the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), the Haut Conseil de l’évaluation de la recherche et de l’enseignement supérieur (HCERES, France), and the Commission des titres d’ingénieur (CTI, France).).
Within the framework of the Learning & Teaching Initiative of the European University Association (EUA), Philippe has participated in and chaired several thematic working groups and, since 2024, he has been a member of the EUA Learning & Teaching Steering Committee.
